RJ Griffith to Originate Role in “Safronia” Workshop at Lyric Opera House

Singer-songwriter and actor RJ Griffith is thrilled to announce his participation in a one-week workshop for the brand-new theatrical piece, Safronia, at the Lyric Opera House in Chicago. Griffith will be originating the role of King Willie Tate, bringing to life a never-before-seen character in this genre-defying production.

Running from February 17 – 22, 2025, the workshop will immerse Griffith and the creative team in the text and score of Safronia, culminating in a full run-through that will be archived as an audio recording. Unlike traditional opera, Safronia is infused with soul, R&B, funk, and blues, creating a powerful new musical experience.

“This opportunity is a dream come true, not just to perform at such an iconic venue, but to help shape a brand-new character and story,” said Griffith. “This is just the beginning! We’re planning live concerts this fall, and I can’t wait to share more updates.”

Stay tuned for more on Safronia as it develops, and follow RJ Griffith’s journey as he helps bring this dynamic new show to life.
